Jorge is a little boy of about 11 that just recently left the streets and went back home. I loved having him at Masana. We had this little game where he would follow me around anywhere i went, calling himself “my tail.” When I was tired of playing, I would simply walk into the main house on our property and Jorge would stop at the door because he knew he was not allowed into the house. Jorge follows me with such childlike faith.
Felix is 15 years old. He holds a very special place in my heart as one of the first boys I became close to when I started working at Masana in 2009. Even at his age, there is such a childlike faith about him. Just today, he played the “tail” game as I weaved around tables and couches and in and out of different rooms…following me anywhere I went until I finally sat down on one of those couches.
Children follow with such blind faith. And some of them have the blessing of continuing to posses this childlike faith even as a teenager.
Recently, I heard a song by Hillsong called Forever Reign. The chorus says, “I’m running to Your arms. The riches of Your love with always be enough.” I immediately pictured the boys of Masana following me around as I ran into the arms of Jesus. Exactly where I want to lead them. As it’s there, and only there, that they will encounter a love greater than the riches this world has to offer.
May I and all of us who work at Masana be Christ-like leaders for these precious little “tails” to follow.
